10,000 hours? Nah. I’ll do 20.

I just started reading “The First 20 Hours: How to Learn Anything… FAST!” by Josh Kaufman.   Check out the attached video of his TEDx talk.  You’ll enjoy the ending :)

So here is the basic premise.  In his book, Outliers, Malcom Gladwell presented the idea that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something.  This may be true if you want to become world class or the top 1% in a skill/trade.  But what if you just want to be proficient enough to really enjoy something or to be well above average? Josh says you can get there in 20 hours.

I love the idea of applying the Pareto rule to learning.  Here are a few things I’m going to try this method on after getting through the book:

  1. Meditation
  2. Twitter Ads Platform/Strategy
  3. Public Speaking (Toastmasters)

I’ll post the results as I go though the process.
